Terms of Use
Last updated: 18 April 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of MyChessFamily, including the public website at mychessfamily.uk and the platform at app.mychessfamily.uk.
By using MyChessFamily, you agree to these terms. If you are a parent or guardian creating an account on behalf of a child, you agree to these terms on your own behalf and accept responsibility for the child's use of the platform.
Please read these terms carefully. If you do not agree, do not use MyChessFamily.
2. Who we are
MyChessFamily is operated in the United Kingdom. For queries, contact us at [email protected].
3. Access and eligibility
MyChessFamily is currently in a private beta. Access is by invitation only. To join, submit an application on this website; we will contact you if a space becomes available.
Child accounts for users under 16 may only be created by a responsible adult (parent or guardian) who has provided verifiable parental consent. Users aged 16-17 may apply through the same public signup intake flow as adults. You must be 18 or over to create an adult account or to act as the responsible guardian for a child account.
4. Your account
You are responsible for:
- Keeping your login credentials secure and not sharing them with others
- All activity that takes place under your account
- Ensuring the information you provide is accurate and kept up to date
- Notifying us immediately at [email protected] if you believe your account has been compromised
Child accounts use display name aliases and platform-managed credentials. Adults are responsible for managing child credentials and for their child's use of the platform.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use MyChessFamily to:
- Harass, bully, or harm any other user
- Post or transmit content that is unlawful, abusive, threatening, or obscene
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to another user's account or data
- Interfere with the platform's operation (e.g. through automated attacks, scraping)
- Use the platform for any commercial purpose without our written consent
- Impersonate MyChessFamily, our staff, or any other user
- Deliberately abandon live games repeatedly in order to disrupt other players' experience or avoid recording a loss. Repeated abandonment may result in an automatic temporary suspension from live play.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.
6. Platform content
All chess lessons, exercises, and educational content on MyChessFamily are provided for personal, non-commercial use only. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from our content without our written permission.
7. Children's safety
The safety of children using MyChessFamily is our highest priority. Adults who create or manage child accounts agree to:
- Supervise their child's use of the platform appropriately for the child's age
- Report any concerns about content or behaviour to us immediately
- Not share a child's credentials with people who do not have parental responsibility for the child
We do not provide open chat between children and unknown adults. All social features are restricted to approved family contexts managed by the responsible adult.
For live (human-vs-human) games, children's matchmaking visibility defaults to family group only. Adults can adjust this setting from their guardian dashboard; expanding a child's visibility requires an active acknowledgement by the guardian. Children cannot change their own matchmaking visibility setting.
8. Service availability
We aim to keep MyChessFamily available at all times but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. We may take the service offline for maintenance, updates, or reasons beyond our control. We are not liable for any loss resulting from unavailability of the service.
MyChessFamily is provided “as is” during the private beta. Features may change or be removed. We will notify users of material changes by email.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, MyChessFamily is not liable for:
- Indirect, incidental, or consequential losses
- Loss of data (other than as set out in our Privacy Policy)
- Actions of third parties
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.
10. Termination
You can request account closure by contacting [email protected]. Closure disables access immediately and schedules permanent deletion after a 30-day grace period. Guardians requesting closure of a family account should confirm whether linked child accounts should also be closed; unlinked child accounts are handled separately.
You can also contact [email protected] for account closure assistance. Data handling follows our Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms or if we decide to close the beta programme. We will give reasonable notice where possible.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email. Continued use of MyChessFamily after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
